This policy explains how Origami handles information on your Mac, what is sent when you browse or use AI, and how this website works.

Terms of Service

Browsing connects to other services

When you visit a website, search the web, download a file, or follow an RSS feed, the relevant website or service receives the requests needed to provide that content. Requests may include ordinary connection information such as your IP address, along with information you submit. Those services have their own privacy practices.

Browser features such as website icons, Reader images, and enabled search suggestions may also make network requests. Origami is a browser, so local storage of your browsing records does not mean that browsing happens offline.

What stays on your Mac

Origami stores browser data such as profiles, bookmarks, history, saved tabs, preferences, and feed data on your Mac. WebKit manages website data such as cookies and caches. Ask the Web history is stored locally unless the relevant browsing mode or setting prevents it. Your AI provider API keys are stored in macOS Keychain.

Managing your data

Origami’s history-retention setting applies to browsing history, recently closed tabs, and inactive Ask histories across profiles. It does not remove cookies, other website data, bookmarks, or downloaded files. Shortening the retention period can delete older history immediately.

Deleting a profile removes its website data, history, bookmarks, permissions, and saved tabs; files you downloaded remain. Local browser data and credentials are separate from the app itself, so removing the application alone should not be treated as erasing all stored data.

What Private Browsing means

Private Browsing limits local retention. Private Ask the Web answers are not saved in local history. Websites, network operators, and AI providers still receive requests. Private Browsing is not anonymity, and explicitly saved bookmarks and downloaded files remain after a private window closes.

When you use AI

Ordinary browsing works without an AI provider or API key. When you use AI features, requests go to the provider you configure. Depending on the feature, those requests may include your question and relevant page or selected content. The provider’s privacy and retention policies apply.

Supported providers may include OpenAI, OpenRouter, Google Gemini, and xAI. Provider and model capabilities vary, and model usage or web search may incur charges. Choose a provider whose practices are appropriate for the information you send.

This website

This marketing website may contact GitHub’s public API to retrieve current release or version information. GitHub may receive ordinary connection information, such as your IP address, when these requests are made.

Origami includes no first-party telemetry. This marketing website does not include analytics scripts, advertising scripts, tracking cookies, forms, or an account system. Images and demo videos are served from the same site.

The website’s hosting or CDN provider may process connection information, including IP addresses, to deliver and secure requests. Request-log retention depends on the hosting configuration.

Policy updates

This policy may be updated as Origami changes. Changes will be reflected on this page with a revised date.
